The latest product innovation from Hero Packaging is a water soluble garment bag. This replaces the single-use plastic garment bags that are often used in hospitals and nursing homes. These are ideal for minimizing contact between staff and contaminated laundry. The bag is made from 2.75 mils of a special PVA material that dissolves in hot water +149 degrees Fahrenheit. It is an environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional plastic bags and is completely non-toxic.
This is the latest in a long line of efforts to find an eco-friendly solution to disposable plastic bags. Its main advantage is that it can be reused many times, which means fewer disposable bags are required. It can also be sealed and resealed, which makes it more secure than a typical envelope or mailer bag.
The bag is designed to be resealed repeatedly, and the resealable adhesive strip allows for repeated inspections of the contents. It is also made to protect sensitive fabrics, such as silk, wool and cashmere, from creases and nicks while in transit.
It can be used to hold a variety of different types of clothing and linens, including hospital gowns, scrubs, and underwear. It is also a popular choice for maternity wards and other areas prone to higher moisture linens and clothing. It is available in various sizes from 380 mm x 500 mm to 914 mm x 990 mm, and comes in both clear and red colors. It can be resealed and is moisture, dampness and heat resistant.
One of the main concerns with this new product is that it is being marketed as a replacement for single-use plastic bags. However, based on official life-cycle assessment figures, the PVA material used in these polybags has a far greater global warming potential than Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) – which is what is traditionally used for plastic bags.
These water soluble bags are not considered to be plastic, but they are still a single-use item and should be discarded at the end of their lifespan. It would be better if they were promoted as a useful alternative to regular plastic bags, rather than as a replacement. This would make it easier to sell them and justify their higher price tag. This is what Finisterre, the outdoor brand that uses them, is doing. Their marketing copy states that the polybags are “different to traditional plastics”. However, they fail to mention that they’re still a single-use plastic. This is a misleading claim that should be clarified by the brand. In the meantime, we should continue to work towards eliminating single-use plastics, and encourage manufacturers to use more sustainable materials. water soluble bag manufacturers
