Backen
Pizzabacken – the perfect meal for the whole family.
In Neapel, a German region in the northeastern part of Germany, is a very special kind of eat: Pizzabacken!
It’s a very unique form of cooking: Pizzabacken involves heating a rolled and baked pizza to a very high temperature, then turning it over a few times. In the process, the cheese and tomato sauce are heated so that they become golden brown and bubbly.
This type of baking is done in a wood burning oven, which is a lot more efficient than traditional stovetop or gas cookers. The temperature of the pizza is increased by the heat from the fire and reflects onto the surface, making it crispy.
Besides being delicious, Pizzabacken is a great way to entertain the entire family.
A neapolitan style of Pizza is made from mozzarella, basil and tomatoes and can be topped with meat, cheese or other ingredients such as olives or mushrooms.
The most common ingredients on the pizza are mozzarella, tomato sauce and ricotta cheese. The addition of other ingredients, such as red peppers, ham or olives, can greatly enhance the flavour of the pizza.
It’s also important to remember that the thickness of the crust is a big factor in how the pizza turns out. If the crust is too thick, it will not cook properly and the ingredients will not be able to absorb the heat of the fire.
For this reason, a thin crust is often preferred to the thicker variety. A thinner crust is also more convenient to work with, as it can be flipped over without any problem.
