Veg puff is a bakery-style puff pastry tea time snack filled with spiced vegetables. They are delicious and easy to make at home, although some people tend to buy these snacks from bakery stores too.
The puffs are stuffed with vegetables like potatoes, carrots and green peas. These veggies are cooked with subtle spices such as ground turmeric, garam masala and red chili powder. The veg stuffing is then wrapped in puff pastry and baked to perfection. Veg puffs are popular railway station snacks and also a regular sight in bakeries as they are light, crispy and easy to digest.
These snacks can be very high in calories, and if consumed in excess, they can lead to weight gain and indigestion. Hence, it is best to stick to one or two of these snacks at a time and eat them in moderation.
To make these puffs at home, first you need to thaw the puff pastry sheets as per instructions on the package. Once thawed, sprinkle some flour on the working surface (to prevent sticking) and divide the puff pastry sheet into 9 equal parts. Now take one part and slightly elongate/stretch it using rolling pin to form a rectangle (not too thin). Place couple of tablespoon of veg filling in the center of the rectangle and fold it like a triangle. Press and seal the edges to make sure that it doesn’t open up while baking.
You can brush the puffs with milk (or egg wash if you are an egg eater) for more golden color on top. Place the veg puffs on a baking tray and bake into the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown in color. Once done, serve the veg puffs with ketchup or any other chutney of your choice. بف خضار
