When asked to name a high-end holiday destination along the Costa del Sol, most people will undoubtedly mention Marbella with its glitz and million-euro mansions. But there’s another gem at the far western end of the coast which loves to sit beneath the radar: Sotogrande.
Sotogrande offers elite standards of living without the exacting costs found further north. The town’s beautiful setting, excellent air quality and spectacular views are all key to its appeal.
The Sotogrande Marina is like a small Venice with the Guadiaro River forming a series of islands that are home to numerous developments of luxury apartments. Many of these apartments come with moorings for private yachts, giving residents easy access to the watersports on offer in the Marina. There’s also a wide selection of restaurants and bars, including the recently opened Trocadero.
Located on the beachfront in Estepona, this unique restaurant serves dishes from around the world. From grilled meats to sushi, there’s something for everyone at this family friendly venue.
The historic old town of Estepona has narrow cobbled streets and whitewashed houses reminiscent of a bygone era. It’s a great place to visit, especially if you’re interested in Andalusian culture and cuisine. Look out for traditional cuisine such as octopus and sardines on skewers served with ajoblanco or gazpacho.
Several outstanding schools can be found in the area, including the famous Sotogrande International School (SIS). The school provides a British style education to children between the ages of three and 18. SIS is an IB boarding and day school. Estepona & Sotogrande
